Boone named Radiological Controls manager

RICHLAND, Wash.—Darren M. Boone has been appointed Radiological Controls manager for Washington Closure Hanford, where he is responsible for the radiological controls program for the River Corridor Closure Project.

Before joining Washington Closure, Boone served as project manager for Eberline Services Hanford where he was in charge of managing Eberline’s work to provide radiological control and industrial hygiene services under subcontract to Washington Closure.

Boone began his career in radiological protection in the U.S. Navy where he served from 1981-1993. From 1993 to 2001, he served in management positions for companies providing radiological control or laboratory services to private industry and the U.S. government.

In 2001, he joined Fluor Hanford in Richland, where he worked at the Plutonium Finishing Plant and the K Basins. Most recently, he served as the director of Safety, Health, Quality Assurance, Emergency Preparedness and Radiological Controls for the K Basin Closure Project before joining Eberline Services Hanford and the River Corridor Closure Project in 2007.

Boone earned his bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management in 1990 at The New School for Social Research in New York City. In 1999, he earned his master’s degree in Radiation Health Physics at Oregon State University, Corvallis. He also is a graduate of program at the Naval Engineering Laboratory Technician School and the Naval Nuclear Power School and Training Unit.

Washington Closure, a limited liability company owned by the URS Washington Division, Bechtel National and CH2M Hill, manages the River Corridor Closure Project for the U.S. Department of Energy’s Richland Operations Office at the 586-square-mile Hanford Site in southeastern Washington state.

The company is responsible for cleaning up 370 contaminated waste sites, demolishing 486 buildings and operating the Environmental Restoration Disposal Facility. Washington Closure expects to finish cleanup work on the $2.2 billion project by 2015.
