Harrison named procurement manager for Washington Closure Hanford

RICHLAND, Wash.—Washington Closure Hanford has named Rodney M. Harrison manager of procurement and property. He replaced Dennis Houston who retired.

Harrison has served as procurement manager for the field remediation project within Washington Closure for the past three years. As procurement and property manager, he is responsible for a staff of more than 30 employees.

Harrison is a 30-year veteran of the URS Washington Division, one of the owners of Washington Closure. He began his career as a buyer with Morrison Knudsen in 1979. As an employee with Washington Group International, which purchased Morrison Knudsen in 1996, he spent time with British Nuclear Fuels Limited in the United Kingdom and with the U.S. Department of Energy at Idaho National Laboratory and the Uranium Mill Tailings Remedial Action Project in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Washington Closure has extremely aggressive subcontracting goals with 65 percent of all subcontracts earmarked for small businesses. In fiscal year 2009, Washington Closure surpassed that goal by a substantial margin, subcontracting 93 percent to small businesses. Last fiscal year, the company awarded more than $151 million to small businesses out of total procurements of $163 million.

Washington Closure manages the $2.4 billion River Corridor Closure Project at the U.S. Department of Energy’s 586-square-mile Hanford Site in southcentral Washington state. The company is responsible for cleaning up 370 waste sites, demolishing 486 contaminated buildings, placing three nuclear facilities in interim safe storage and operating the Environmental Restoration Disposal Facility, which is the Hanford Site’s engineered landfill for radioactive and hazardous waste.
