Wintczak named Project Integration Director for Washington Closure

RICHLAND, Wash.—Washington Closure Hanford has named Thomas M. Wintczak as director of Project Integration for the River Corridor Closure Project.

Washington Closure is a limited liability company owned by the URS Washington Division, Bechtel National and CH2M Hill. The company manages the River Corridor Closure Project at the U.S. Department of Energy’s 586-square-mile Hanford Site in southeastern Washington state.

Wintczak is responsible for managing and maintaining costs and schedules for the 8-year, $2.2 billion project.

He began his career in 1975 as a geologist for the Bunker Hill Company in Idaho, and also worked for the Jersey Minere Zinc Company in Tennessee before going to work for Rockwell Hanford Company on the Basalt Waste Isolation Project in Richland in the late 1970s.

He worked for Rockwell and Westinghouse Hanford Company before going to work for Bechtel Hanford Inc. on Hanford’s Environmental Restoration Contact in project planning in 1994.

In 2003, Wintczak transferred to Bechtel Bettis Idaho in Idaho Falls. He served as manager of Planning, Scheduling and Cost Control until returning to Richland in September 2008, as director of Project Integration for Washington Closure. He also serves as the senior representative on the River Corridor Closure Project for Bechtel National Inc.

Washington Closure is responsible for cleaning up 370 contaminated waste sites, demolishing 486 buildings and operating the Environmental Restoration Disposal Facility. The company expects to finish cleanup work on the $2.2 billion project by 2015.
